Movie Reviews and more to do

Well I managed to catch up on a few movies I had been wanting to see.

TRANSIT The camping trip was meant to reunite the Sidwell family. When they are hunted and terrorized by violent bank robbers, their very survival will depend on working together.

I’m not sure this movie got much attention, I didn’t really remember it, but I thought I would check it out and I was pleasantly entertained. There was great suspension, action, and a struggling family working on keeping it together.

LOCKOUT – A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

This movie looked sorta interesting… however, I was a little disappointed in the whole story line.  This movie was set in the future, 2079 and some of the most violent criminals were sent to a prison in space where they were put into individual pods and “frozen”. My big confusion here is what was the reason for freezing these criminals? Where they going to become reformed during their long, restful sleep?  Born again Christians? Why not just kill them? or is that to inhumane?  Turns out this “freezing” process screwed them up in all kinds of ways. More aggressive, dementia, and who knows what else.  So, although there were some great one liners from the main character, Guy Pearce, this movie sorta BLEW IT !

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES  – Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

I sometimes worry about sequels, trilogies, etc. because so often they do not live up to the first, or second even. It’s really frustrating to find out you spent your hard earned moolah to endure 2 hours of mind-numbing film.  With that being said… “The Dark Knight Rises” does not disappoint.  I love seeing characters from the previous films being played by the same actors and picking up where things left off.  I enjoyed the action, the new toys, seeing old characters and meeting new characters as well.  I enjoyed Anne Hathaway’s mischievous character for sure.  Christian Bale was great, which I had no doubts about.  I think I admire him even more after seeing him take time out of promoting his new movie and going to Aurora to visit and pay respects to those affected by the recent tragedy.  Kudos to you Mr. Bale and your wife for being “real” compassionate people.

SAVAGES  Entrepreneurs Ben, a peaceful and charitable marijuana producer, and friend Chon, a former Navy SEAL, run a lucrative, homegrown industry – raising some of the best weed ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with Ophelia. Life is idyllic in their Southern California town… until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them. When the merciless head of the BC, Elena and her enforcer, Lado, underestimate the unbreakable bond of the three friends, Ben and Chon – with the reluctant assistance of a dirty DEA agent – wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills. Written by Universal

Honestly, I didn’t have much to go on with this movie, I had to waste some time while Chris was in school so I decided to go to a movie. I try not to pick movies that he is interested in so we can see those together.  This one I hadn’t seen much about it so I watched the trailer really quick on my phone, it was sorta a blur… didn’t really give me much to go on (guess that’s what it’s like after you smoke some of that green stuff) Anyway… it was showing so I went… It was pretty good actually.  I learned more about the ins and outs of the pot business, something I couldn’t care less about, but I’m sure it interests many…  The characters were great.  I love some of the great actors involved in this film like John Travolta, and  Salma Hayek.  Now the relationship between the 3 main characters really had my attention.  These 2 really hot guys who happened to be best friends shared their girl, “O”.  What a fantasy… to have the best parts of 2 totally different men to give you the combination of one hell of a man… hmmm (just a fantasy, but a damn nice one) And from the looks of it, there were some GREAT qualities to both of these hot guys.  Sorry, Chris, but you don’t read my blog anyway so it’s safe to say.  HEE HEE.  Anyway, some great action, some serious torture and kill scenes, made me squirm a bit.  Hard to imagine how hard core some people and locations are.  So overall, it was a good movie.

I think I have mentioned before… I love getting to see the previews before the movies.  With DVR, I rarely see commercials and that means I miss out on some of the movie trailers on TV too.  So anyway, there are some up-and-coming movies that I am anxious to see… some of which are:

The Bourne Legacy

The Expendables 2

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Grey has taken over

50 Shades of Grey has completely taken over.  It’s everywhere you turn. There are books, blogs, gossip, and now talk of casting for the movie.  I came across an article on CNN today that was very interesting.  Some of the hotels in Seattle, even those mentioned in the book, have come up with what they are calling the “50 Shades of Grey” sexy getaway packages.  The whips and chains aren’t included so you might want to stop by the adult toy store before checking in, but the packages are pretty creative.  This is not something I would consider partaking in due only to the fact it’s way outta my budget, but it sounds pretty nice nonetheless.

I was also reviewing the list of actors that are being considered to star in the future movie.  I think a few of the men wouldn’t be bad, but my vote definitely goes for Matt Bomer.  I had to look him up cause the name didn’t ring any bells, but recognized him from “Burn Notice” and most recently “Magic Mike”.  The following picture sold it for me. There is definitely something dark and mysterious about him and it doesn’t hurt that he’s fun to look at.

I finished the 1st of the trilogy a few weeks ago and I am eager to get started on the next.  I bought just the one vs the trilogy because I wasn’t sure if I would like it enough to continue to 2 and 3 and now I am kicking my own ass (funny site), for not getting all 3.

I do have to say that I am a little unsure about this movie however.  The book is HOT, it’s sexy and provocative and down right naughty, and that’s what makes it so infectious.  People hate to admit to loving that type of thing due to reasons of their own.  I myself have always loved adult literature and a majority of my books are just that. I myself have written several short stories of my own over the years (for my own reading pleasure). I love to read something that grabs my attention and can hold it… like handcuffs to an iron bedpost. I like things that stir up an emotion in me and this definitely stirred something up alright.  I worry however that the movie will change to much from the book and it will lose the effect. I wonder what type of rating there would have to be to make the movie relate more to the book. The chemistry of the actors is going to have to be on point as well for this to be a success.  The thought of this up-and-coming movie makes me think of another movie that really stirred things up for me, “Unfaithful” starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere.  OMG, I gotta tell you, when I saw this movie I was in shock. I kept looking around in the theater to see if other people were being affected by this movie like I was. I was so turned on, so hot and bothered and it was so strange to be sitting in a theater with so many strangers and be in that state of disarray. It was the chemistry between Diane Lane and her love affair… the way he would just “TAKE HER”.  The way he would just pull her here and there and how she tried to fight it but just couldn’t no matter how hard she tried she wanted it just as bad. DAMN, the thought of it gets me excited.  If you haven’t seen this movie, “Unfaithful”, then check it out!! You will be glad you did.

In other news…I had to waste some time earlier this week waiting for Chris to get outta class, so I decided to go and watch “Magic Mike“.  What better way to waste some time then to watch Channing Tatum take off his clothes… wow, how time flew. Quite the dancing skills he portrays… haha.

Well I need to figure out how to get through the rest of this work day now that I have been day dreaming for a bit… Hope you all have a wonderful day !!

11-11-11 my movie review

I’m a little late watching this one… but don’t think that mattered since I could of done without it all together.

The bf told me to watch the trailer a few weeks back when he saw it, and the trailer looked kinda spooky, it left you wondering, but didn’t really tell to much about the movie or what to expect.  (If it did I wasn’t paying attention, which is definitly possible)

Well I was left wanting more, disappointed and bored, then regretful (that I wasted good time on that)

BF seemed to like it more than me, it made you think and he likes that sort of thing.  I know he is just recently learning more about religion, so I’m not sure where he stands on the subject yet, and what his thoughts are on the movie.  We were both really tired and headed to bed shortly after it was over.

I personally was raised in religion, all over the place.  My granny was catholic and I grew up until about mid-school going to the catholic church.  I don’t know that I ever really payed to much attention (SORRY)  When I was middle school we moved back to Texas and closer to my grandfather who is a pastor.  So I have gone to church all my life.  Even as a young adult I don’t know that I payed as much attention as I should have.  I know what I believe and I don’t think that includes alot of the things that happened in this movie.

I don’t think I believe in gateways to other realms.  I don’t think I believe in things like this movie showed like all the number coincidences, occurences to this man.  (Maybe I just don’t read that deep into things)  I believe a person can have demons inside themselves, but more along the lines of  things that they battle internally.  I know there are sins and bad things out there that tempt us and sway us from good, but again, I think that is something you battle inside yourself as to if you partake or participate in such acts or habits.  I feel like you can fall easily toward these sins and “demons” if you lack faith in something.  I don’t think it has to be one specific thing, I think it’s good to have faith in other things.  Faith in people, faith in yourself, faith in your god, etc.

Anyway, I think I am rambling and to a point where I’m not sure if I am making sense… so I will zip it for now… bottom line is, I really didn’t care to much for this film, but to each their own and someone else may see something or experience something I didn’t.

~too see or not to see?  that’s your call, but don’t forget the popcorn !!

JACK and JILL – my movie review

“Jack and Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pail…”  okay sorry, couldn’t help myself.

I was able to go see Jack and Jill this past holiday weekend.  For the most part I LOVE Adam Sandler.  There have been a couple of movies that I didn’t care for because they just were not his sick and twisted self.  I confess… I like the sick and twisted stuff… usually  😀

I wasn’t really interested in this movie much until I saw the Dr. Phil episode about a week or so ago with Adam on there and a bunch of other twins that in the film.  After watching this episode, I thought it might be worth a go to see it.  So we did.  I was glad I did.  I laughed myself silly.  I don’t know where he comes up with some of the things he does or says.  You get a double dose of him in this film, but then there is a long list of other famous faces all through out.  I have to say this is one of the oddests and funniest things I have see Al Pacino do as well.  That was a little shocking, but so funny.   I really wish they did more out-takes on things like this.  I cannot imagine how many times they had to redo kiss scenes, hugging scenes, and other scenes I don’t want to spoil.

It’s not an award winner by any means, but what Adam Sandler movies are?  It is however a good laugh and I definitely love, love, love those !!

~Grab your popcorn and check it out !!

Paranormal Activity 3

Yep that’s what was at the top of my movie viewing list for this past weekend.  I’m always up for seeing a movie on opening weekend just so I don’t have others spoiling it for me, or swaying my desire to see it.

I love scary movies, but find that there is a lack there of real horror movies these days.  They mostly contain obsurb plots, un-realistic characters or occurances and that is somewhat of a disappointment.  I love a movie that I can actual invision happening, something realistic that can get some sort of emotional feeling stirred up in me.  It could be a sappy, heart jerker that makes me cry.  A comedy that makes me laugh until it hurts, and even better a horror movie that makes me look over my shoulder and wonder what ever unknown noise is.

Sooo with that being said… I started this series with the 1 Paranormal Activity and quickly discovered that particuliar movie was definitely NOT my cup of tea.  The filming style of running around, chaotic camera movements makes me so sick.  Motion sickness really sucks, especially when your NOT even moving.  I totally need a dose of Dramamine before viewing those types of movies.  Guess that’s good filming if I get that sort of reaction huh… definately not the desired emotion I enjoy.  Sooo after making it through the first PA, with hands over my face peeking out ever so often… I wasn’t sure if I could withstand PA 2.  I however took the challenge (Daredevil ME!! LMAO)  I was pleased to see that this film style was not the same as the 1st.  This one had still camera views throughout the film… RIGHT up my alley and I found that I could watch it just fine without peeking through my fingers.  I got spooked several times and loved that aspect of it.  Definitely pleased with the 2nd.  So when I heard there was a 3rd, I was in hopes of something similiar.

I didn’t read up on the film to much, was just going on the few previews that I had seen here and there, so I was not aware that it was a prequil to the other ones.   I was a little worried at first when I realized the film style was similiar to PA 1.  I was in hopes I would not be running to the bathroom to toss my popcorn… but I managed okay.   I didn’t find PA3 to be that scary.  There were some really good parts, spooky parts and jumpy sections.  Definitely sections that involve children are always spooky to me.  The last 15 min was probably the spookiest and had some awesome scenes – will tell you later what my fav scenes were – don’t want to spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it and might be reading this.   I was a little confused however at the end.  I am not sure where this falls in the series… It sorta seems to me that it’s inbetween 1 and 2.   PA1 is when there was no children, and no baby bump… PA 2 they had the baby, and PA3 started with a baby bump and then went on to history VHS tapes from the childhood years…  I am definitely going to have to go back and watch 1 and 2.

I don’t know that I loved it, except maybe the last 5 mins…. so I am glad we had a B1G1 ticket and it only cost us 7.50 🙂

Tootles – McQty

Footloose – REMAKE

So I was leary at first about going to see the remake because I so love the CLASSIC Bacon version so much… But I had time to kill while my sweetie was at school this week and I figured it was a good one to see alone, since I know my bf wouldnt be interested in it.

I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it. The BACON version is still my favorite, but this was a nice up-to-date version. Updated dancing and the story line varried a little and the new variation was a good one.

I absolutely loved the character who played Willard, he was just adorable and so funny too. He’s someone I’m sure I have run across a time or two growing up in Texas.

I definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to see a light hearted, fun movie !
